At its April meeting, the Chamber-managed Construction Technology Cluster (CTC) elected Holcim Hungary Kft. as a member.
The cement company, which is based in Királyegyháza, Baranya County, started operations in 2011 and also operates a clay and limestone mine in Bükkösd. The Királyegyháza Cement Plant was built using the best available technology. In recent years, it has made further environmental investments worth more than HUF 4.5 billion. Holcim aims to serve the Hungarian construction industry with sustainable and innovative construction solutions.
It is well known that the construction sector is one of the largest emitters of pollutants in the economy. Holcim Hungary has already taken significant steps towards sustainable, circular operations. They plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. To this end, they use a variety of alternative fuels and raw materials (e.g. domestic, industrial and agricultural, construction and demolition waste) in cement production. As a result, it can now replace more than 90% of fossil fuels with alternative fuels. In doing so, it has reduced Holcim’s carbon footprint by more than 45%.
The company also has a strong social commitment. Open days and visits to both the plant and the quarry are organised frequently. They also regularly organise running races for young and old, and support the local community.
